First and Last Blog?

The trek up the mountain was tiresome...

What people don't often realize, is unless you work at a zoo and can get magnificent photos (like my Australian friend), it is very difficult to find a photo that's interesting. I grew up with the rise and availability of cameras so I know better than most how desensitized we've become to true photography. I'd say I'm more of an amateur, but I do know a GREAT photo from an ALRIGHT photo seeing as I've made it my life goal to know why people like art. Perhaps one of the greatest reasons people like art, is because it's difficult to do, and you can't do it.

The same can be said for the medium of photography. The shots people see of National Geographic lions and tigers took weeks of preparation and even days of implementation in order to get the correct shot of what is, in all honesty, a rather large cat. As for me, I don't have a couple of thousand dollar budget, so I can't seem to get far enough away from civilization. No matter where I go, there's always a path with boot tread on it. Thus, the reason my friend and I put on our big boy pants to climb higher than most people would. The trek up the mountain was tiresome but it was worth it. The shots I got were also pretty nice. I wouldn't say they're top tier, but that's fine. Coming from first hand experience, while it is good to hold certain figures as inspiration for your work, to compare yourself to Michelangelo every time you take a sculpting class will kill you and your passion.

So I guess to summarize what this first blog post is all about, is please don't let your passion die, but don't think you're better than you really are. It's dangerous for your personal growth as an artist to either overestimate or under estimate your work. Instead, focus on your improving your work and if someone asks if your work is good, show them. You don't need to champion your own abilities in the arena of debate and poetic grandstanding. Instead, let your work do the talking. So I guess I'll shut up about the photo I took of my friend and let the image to the talking.

I like blogging, but with most things, my attention span may switch. I may half write a love song and then inventing a new way to eat apples and cheese at the same time. By the way, it's called the CheesyApp and it's revolutionary. Anyway, I'll try to write when I can, but no promises.
